Missions & Dispatch

Missions

A mission is a shared objective for the full network: a fly-in, a challenge, or a journey with more than one leg. Join a mission, fly a leg that counts, and your name goes on the mission, with each other pilot who flew it.

The Missions page

  • The Missions page is one list. At the top is the weekly community vote. Below it are the pilots who fly mission legs now, and then each active mission as a card, with its aircraft, its pilots and its live activity.
  • A mission that starts later shows the time until its start. The recent winners and the completed events appear below.

How to fly a mission

  • Open a mission to see its objective, its legs, the pilots who joined, and the pilots who flew it.
  • Select Fly this. Tailstrike shows the available aircraft that are correct for the next leg of the mission. The aircraft at the origin of the leg appear first. When you lease one of them, the lease declares the mission automatically.
  • You can also declare a mission when you lease: select Mission as the flight type, then select the leg.
  • Fly the leg as a normal flight. When you land, Tailstrike records the completion on the mission and on your flight page.

Types of missions

  • Event missions: missions with a date. An event frequently occurs when controllers are on duty on VATSIM. Therefore you can have live ATC if you want it.
  • Community missions: missions that the pilots propose and select each week. See Community missions.
  • Personal assignments: your own Intelligent Dispatch flights. They are only for you, and they do not appear in the public mission lists.
Note
Some missions and events give a permanent badge to the pilots who complete them.
