Flying

Connecting your sim

The Tailstrike plugin connects your simulator to the network. It records each flight directly from the simulator. Therefore the place and the method of your flight are not important. Fly online or offline, by day or by night, for a short leg or a long leg. If the plugin is in operation, the flight counts.

Supported simulators

MSFS 2020MSFS 2024P3DFSXX-Plane 11X-Plane 12

The plugin operates with each of these simulators. SimConnect covers MSFS, P3D and FSX. The plugin connects to X-Plane directly. Install the plugin one time, for each simulator that you have.

How to stay connected

  • Keep the plugin in operation for the full flight, from before your departure until you stop at your destination.
  • A short disconnection is permitted. A disconnection of approximately thirty minutes terminates the flight.
  • Always fly in real time. Do not use time acceleration.

How to add VATSIM

VATSIM is optional, and it operates together with Tailstrike. Fly the same leg on the network, and you get live controllers, other traffic and event airspace, with your recorded flight. Your connected CID joins your network activity to your Tailstrike profile. When Intelligent Dispatch knows that you fly on VATSIM, it prefers a destination with live ATC.

Flight plans
You do not need a flight plan. You can fly VFR in a general-aviation aircraft with no flight plan. If you fly an airliner on VATSIM, give a flight plan in the normal way. Then ATC can give you a better service.
