Update: Parking and Pilot Notes

Tailstrike Update — Sessions, Parking, and More Meaningful Flights
This update brings several changes to the way flights are tracked, creating a more continuous, cohesive, and detailed record of aircraft and flights.
Taxi Routes and Parking Persistence
Previously, flights would "complete" immediately after landing, and the server would stop tracking your aircraft at that point. While your flight technically is complete and logged as soon as you land, your session is still active. This update let's us record post-arrival taxi movement and even determine your exact parking spot.
New behavior:
- Full session path saved in telemetry, including post-arrival taxi
- Parking spot automatically detected
- Parking displayed on both the flight and the aircraft page
- Aircraft icon now appears at its last parking position on the aircraft page
This was always something we wanted to implement, and now it's here. Aircraft aren't just "at the airport", they are in the same exact spot they were left.
(Note: it's not required to start at the same parking spot the aircraft is parked at, but it is encouraged.)
Pilot Notes & Flight Ratings
One of the most requested features has been the ability to leave notes after your flight. This allows pilots to communicate information to each other, which can lead to more depth. Pilot reports are completely optional, and pilots can include as much or as little information as they want. Maybe it's technical notes (e.g. inop buttons) for the next pilot to simulate, or a description of the nature of flight. These notes will be publicly recorded and viewable.
Pilot Notes v1 includes:
- Short text note
- Landing rating
- Weather rating
- Flight type: Event, VA, or group flight
A flight log is more meaningful when it reflects the experience, not just the data!
Important: Ending your lease means your session will no longer be tracked, so wait until you're parked. Leases will automatically end if you disconnect after landing.
Lease Page & Interaction Improvements
The lease page was long overdue for a QOL update, and that's just what we did. We will continue to make improvements and tweaks, but the lease page UX/UI should be much smoother with this patch.
There will be another Lease page update in the coming days, adding Simbrief API integration to directly file and generate flight plans from the Tailstrike app.
Reliability & Smaller Fixes
- Sessions properly terminate if disconnected too long
- User Hangar “View more flights” fixed
- Airport list corrections
- Improved Network Activity tab
- Updated navbar
- Fixed an issue with VATSIM OAuth login
Overall Direction
This update moves Tailstrike away from tracking flights and toward tracking aircraft, which has always been the goal.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to push updates and improve the Tailstrike experience. Your feedback has been essential for helping us determine what matters and what we work on.
